i have never really liked holidays for the simple fact that i have too much free time on my hands, and nothing much to occupy my mind with. an idle mind is indeed the devil's playground - and i have had so many unfortunate experiences of this. therefore, i have come to realise the importance of occupying your mind with wholesome thoughts. reading definitely transports me to another place, one where i am not in my own thoughts, but that of the author's, and it's refreshing to hear fresh opinions and also to be challenged to think in ways i am not conditioned to. the next important thing is the type of things you consume. for awhile now, i have been trying to submerse myself in educational TED talks, like ones that motivate you, help you realise your potential and most importantly, give you encouragement and reason to try harder. i have also been trying to read books surrounding my faith, to enable me to dive deeper into Christianity, in my effort to grow in land mature as a child of God.
these days, in quiet moments, i find myself recalling concepts from the videos i have watched or from the books i have read. i much prefer my mind almost automatically filling itself with these things rather than seeking for other, less meaningful, or even poisonous things to be filled with.
