as chinese new year comes to a close, i am reminded of the family that God has placed in my life. though everyone may not be living in the same country, distance is not splitting us apart. we sometimes forget how extensive our family trees actually are, and we may actually cross-paths with relatives more often than we know. it only makes me wonder if it's actually possible for everyone to gather and get to know each other. but that seems like an almost impossible feat, considering strained relationships and migration to other countries.
for all i know, the ones who are close are the ones that matter the most. sometimes i get asked about school or touch football and i pause for a moment to try to recall when i've told my relatives about my life but then i am presented with the thought that my dad may actually have been updating my relatives every once in awhile. i don't know how things are going to be when my dad is no longer around because he seems to be the bridge between the generations. things were different back then, and everyone seemed much closer when migration was not very popular and several families living under the same roof was normal. i guess we have to learn to adapt and somehow fill the spaces between generations too
