i recall a time, perhaps 4 years ago that someone asked me "do you never get angry?". there once was a time where anger was a word i knew the meaning of, but not too much the feeling of. it was an emotion i did not fully identify with, upon hindsight, probably because i was full of patience. somehow, over these few years, my patience has dwindled and i increasingly start to find myself identifying more and more with anger.
an article i just opened reminded me that we are called to be slow to anger.
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.oh how patient our father is toward us. his holy patience is what we enjoy most. and this is also what we should be giving to fellow sinners - our patience.
Dear Father God,
thank you for the patience that you've lavished upon us, which can sometimes be misunderstood as you not fulfilling your promise by us who are impatient and unable to see beyond the present. dear God, please help me to emulate the same patience that you have demonstrated for us in 2 Peter, to restrain my wrath, because no one but i deserved it, and yet you took it in place of me. help me to look like you, my Father.
amen.
